During NAIDOC Week, We're Reminded That Every Jar Begins With Country

What Australia's landscapes continue to teach us

Acknowledgement of Country

Gather By acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the Country on which we live, work and collaborate to produce our life-enhancing Australian Manuka honey. We recognise their continuing connection to Land, Waters and Culture, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

"For more than 10 years, Gather By has been privileged to work across some of Australia's most remarkable landscapes. Every season, every flowering tree and every healthy ecosystem has reinforced one simple lesson—extraordinary Australian Manuka honey begins long before the bees arrive."

Each year, NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for Australians to recognise and celebrate the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly," celebrates five decades of NAIDOC Week while recognising the strength, resilience and enduring contributions of First Nations peoples across Australia.

For us at Gather By, it is also an opportunity to reflect on something our own journey has continually taught us.

Every jar of Australian Manuka honey begins with Country.

Long before the bees arrive.

Long before the flowers bloom.

Long before honey is harvested.

Everything begins with healthy landscapes.

Learning From Country

For tens of thousands of years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have cared for Country through deep observation, knowledge and stewardship.

While our own journey is very different, working across Australia's landscapes has continually reinforced the importance of respecting the natural systems that sustain life.

Healthy soils support healthy vegetation.

Healthy waterways nourish healthy landscapes.

Healthy landscapes support native flowering plants.

Those flowering plants support bees and countless other pollinators.

And from that remarkable relationship comes premium Australian Manuka honey.

Nature reminds us that everything is connected.

More Than Planting Trees

People often ask what a Medicinal Honey Forest™ actually is.

It isn't simply rows of Manuka trees planted for honey production.

It's about restoring landscapes.

Supporting biodiversity.

Creating habitat for pollinators.

Working alongside growers.

Strengthening regional communities.

And thinking beyond today's harvest to future generations.

Over the years, our work has taken us from former cotton-growing country to rehabilitated mining landscapes and many other sites where restoring native vegetation is helping create healthier ecosystems.

Every project teaches us something new.

Every season reminds us that nature rewards patience.

Every Flower Matters

Australia is home to more than 80 recognised species of Leptospermum and some of the world's most diverse natural landscapes.

It is also home to hundreds of species of native bees and countless other pollinators that quietly support healthy ecosystems every day.

While European honey bees produce the Manuka honey we enjoy, they are only one part of a much larger ecological story.

Every flowering shrub.

Every native bee.

Every healthy hive.

Every thriving waterway.

Every restored landscape.

Each contributes to the remarkable natural systems that sustain life.

Working Together

One of the greatest privileges of our journey has been working alongside people who care deeply for the land.

Growers.

Beekeepers.

Researchers.

Regional communities.

Traditional Owners.

Each brings different knowledge, different experiences and different perspectives.

Yet together they remind us that caring for Country has never been about quick results.

It is about making decisions today that future generations will benefit from tomorrow.

That philosophy sits at the heart of everything we strive to do.

Nature Doesn't Work To A Production Schedule

One of the greatest lessons nature has taught us is patience.

Flowers bloom when conditions are right.

Bees forage when nectar is available.

Trees mature over many years.

Healthy ecosystems develop over generations.

There are no shortcuts.

The best outcomes come from working with nature rather than trying to control it.

That philosophy continues to shape every Medicinal Honey Forest™ we establish and every jar of Gather By Manuka honey we carefully prepare.

Looking Forward

At Gather By, we often say that every jar tells a story.

This week, we're reminded that every story begins with Country.

One tree may seem insignificant.

One hive may seem small.

One restored landscape may feel like only a beginning.

But nature has always shown us that lasting change starts one season at a time.

This NAIDOC Week, we acknowledge the enduring connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with Country and thank them for the knowledge, resilience and stewardship that continue to inspire Australians to care for the landscapes we all depend upon.

Our commitment is simple.

To continue learning.

To continue restoring.

To continue working alongside those who share a vision of healthier landscapes, thriving biodiversity and remarkable Australian Manuka honey.

Because healthy Country supports healthy ecosystems.

Healthy ecosystems support healthy bees.

And healthy bees help create remarkable Australian Manuka honey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Gather By say every jar begins with Country?

Because healthy landscapes are the foundation of healthy flowering plants, thriving pollinators and premium Australian Manuka honey.

What is a Medicinal Honey Forest™?

Our Medicinal Honey Forest™ program restores landscapes through carefully selected Australian Leptospermum plantings that support biodiversity, pollinators and sustainable Manuka honey production.

Does planting Manuka benefit more than bees?

Yes. Native Leptospermum plantings help support biodiversity, provide habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and contribute to healthier, more resilient landscapes.

Does Gather By work with First Nations communities?

We have been privileged to work alongside First Nations communities on selected landscapes and Medicinal Honey Forest™ projects, with a shared commitment to caring for Country and creating long-term environmental outcomes.

Why is biodiversity so important?

Healthy ecosystems rely on the diversity of plants, pollinators, wildlife and microorganisms working together. The stronger the ecosystem, the greater its resilience and ability to support life.

A Final Reflection

For more than 10 years, Gather By has continued to learn from Australia's landscapes.

Every flowering season.

Every beekeeper.

Every grower.

Every restoration project.

Every healthy hive.

Every harvest.

Together they remind us that remarkable Australian Manuka honey is not simply produced.

It is the result of healthy Country, patient stewardship and people choosing to care for the land for generations to come.

That may be the most important lesson nature has taught us.
